Recycled HDPD Light.

Art and Design foundation Final Major Project.

Supporting Statement

  1. In my research I researched product designers that used a process and manipulated there process to accompany there design, Haldane martin adjusted the traditional weaving technique, to accompany his new plastic material to make the Zulu Mama chair, and heath Nash adjusted the technique of the local African mans weaving technique to accompany his cut-up plastic shapes to create the massive beautiful light.

  2. For this project like most, I found it quite difficult to get into. There was a lot of time spent exploring/ researching different methods of recycling similar to what I had seen in the past. It was only when I let my imagination run wild and let it take more control in directing my project, rather than trying to overthink everything, I stumbled upon my process and material. There were a couple of changes to the design of my light to accompany any faults, for example, the colourful light originally had timber rods instead of the copper rod, I changed this as the timber wasn't strong enough to hold the weight of the light, the copper wire also had a more sleek finish.

  3. I have 2 final outcomes of this project. I have a big white light that was intended to be for a more professional or modern setting(office). Where the colourful one would be in a more playful setting (kids bedroom). Yet both of these light have been hand made and every light made would be completely original so I am trying to appeal to the higher class of people.
